Wine and Dine Hawaii

Jo McGarry

Jo McGarry has been writing about food and wine for more than a decade in Hawaii. Former editor of Gusto Magazine she began working as restaurant specialist for the Honolulu Star Bulletin in 2001 and writing a food column for MidWeek the same year. For seven years she hosted a daily radio show devoted to the pursuit of excellent food and wine and the promotion of local restaurants and chefs.

Local produce is a passion. She has been an advocate for farmers and for local produce for years through her radio work and writing both for local publications and mainland magazines. She is also known as 'the voice of tailgating' bringing the pre-game tailgate show to thousands of devoted UH fans during football season. Author of the successful Hawaii Tailgate Cookbook, Jo knows local food and the people who prepare it - as well as anyone in Hawaii.

She was born and raised in St Andrews, Scotland and spent her formative years in Edinburgh where she maintained a home until recently. She is a freelance writer, a musician, a single malt scotch enthusiast and a mom.

Her food columns in MidWeek, MidWeek the weekend and The Honolulu Star Bulletin reach more than 400,000 people each week. She lives in Honolulu with her husband, sportscaster Bobby Curran and their son Max.
